Project Air Miles – Oct ’19

Collecting air miles have been part of my travel plan for years though I have never really track our progress. Granted, I took advantage of past bank promotions to increase my miles collected. These promotions include Citibank’s Apply Pay 8 miles per $1 in 2018 and the recent Standard Chartered X-Card 100,000 miles. For the latter, I am still awaiting the confirmation sms to be sure of the miles.

We are hoping to make business class tickets redemption for my second-born’s post-PSLE trip. It will be a novel first experience of luxury cabin product for all 4 of us. That changes the game as we have effectively just 2 years to complete the ambitious target below.

*****************************************

Target ~ business class tickets for 4 on following route via Singapore Airlines:
Singapore (Zone 1) to Europe (Zone 11) – 92,000 miles
Europe (Zone 11) to Perth (Zone 8) – 106,000 miles
Air miles for Krisflyer Savers Award – 198,000 miles per pax
Air miles for Krisflyer Savers Award – 792,000 miles for family of 4

2. 1 Citi mile = 1 air mile
3. 5 Citi Reward points = 2 air miles, redemption in blocks of 5,000 points
4. 1 UNI$ = 2 air miles, need minimum 5,000 UNI$ for reward redemption
5. 3,500 reward points = 1,015 air miles

Geez! Sure looks like a tall order considering I spent years to accumulate what I have thus far. I really need to focus and keep my eyes on the prize. The thought inspired this post and will also be doing regular updates on my progress.

Action Plan:
1. Focus spending on cards with orphan miles for redemption
2. Maximise miles earn with right choice of credit card
3. Look out for new credit card promos with generous award points or miles

It’s a challenge we’re taking heads-on. Whether we will reach our target is anybody’s guess. 🙂
