Our Stay at Kiri Pura Resort, Khao Kho

Kiri Pura Resort is a new resort in Khao Kho, a region in northern-central Thailand which is quickly gaining popularity among travellers. Location-wise, the resort is a few minutes’ drive away from the area’s no. 1 tourist attraction, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew.

The 3-star resort has 2 types of accommodation: tent or cabin-style rooms. Each cabin is shaped like a cloud (we only realised it later as they called themselves ‘City of Clouds’, just thought the shape looks unusual).

We took 2 Deluxe cabins: a parent and a child to each cabin. Each 45 sq.m cabin comes with a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom. Our deluxe cabin has glass doors whereas standard rooms have wooden doors. It was tinted in such a way that we could not see through from the inside but people could see us from the outside. Thankfully there was no one staying opposite us.

Something unique about the bathroom is that each is equipped with a steam room for guests’ use. Instructions on how to use the steam room is available in Thai and English. Besides the usual toiletries, they thoughtfully included a honey handmade soap and a small packet of insect repellent.

The resort does not offer room service and there don’t seem to be food option on-site, so it is a good idea to have your dinner before heading to the resort. Free drinks and snacks (chips and nuts) from the minibar are available if you have hunger pangs as well as coffee and tea making facilities.

We love the way the door opens to a view of nearby mountains. It felt great to chill out on the balcony or on the mesh bed. Despite the morning chilly weather, we woke up early for a walk too. The vegetable beds underneath our cabins were just budding so looked quite bare at that point in time.

Currently there are only 9 cloud cabins sighted, we stayed in A8 and A9 right at the end but it offered us good views of the mountains. The cabins are spaced adequately apart to offer occupants privacy. These were the two we stayed in for a night.

Breakfast was served at the main building, where check-in and out were done, which again offered nice views of the surrounds.

Breakfast was included in our room rate. Our hearty breakfast was a choice of either Western breakfast or Thai-style boiled rice with pork.

This came with a set of two toasts with butter and strawberry jam, orange juice, hot beverage and cut fruits (watermelon, pineapple and persimmon).

We were filled to the brim after such a lot of food. The boiled rice with pork tasted good and we would recommend choosing that. The Western set came with spicy sliced ham which may not be suitable for the younger ones. But then you will get sausages, eggs and salad too in the same serving.

The stay did not come cheap. We paid S$265 (US$193) per room for a night’s stay. However, if you are looking to connect with nature in Khao Kho from the comfort of your room, Kiri Pura Resort is a good choice. It was one of the most memorable part of our trip to Khao Kho. If you are willing to compromise comfort with money-saving options, then perhaps can consider Kiri Pura Resort’s tents. The resort appears to be expanding as we saw a few cabin’s under construction, but as those are further from the older ones and will have not have views that are as nice.
