Inhouse Hotels, Taiwan: Hotel Review

Our positive experience staying at Inhouse Boutique Hotel in Ximending during our visit in Sep 2013 gave us a nudge towards choosing it again for this year’s family trip.

After going through the many options we have for the lone night in Taichung, we also decided upon Inhouse Hotel Taichung.

Inhouse Hotel Taichung

Inhouse Hotel Taichung is located around 10 minutes walk way from Taichung Railway Station. By virtue of its location, it’s very convenient for guests who are travelling into and out of Taichung via trains. It did not matter much to us though since we were not taking the trains. Even then, being close to the station means there are many buses plying the nearby streets that equates to convenience for public bus commuters.

We took 2 Elegance Rooms with 1 queen-sized bed and a single bed of size 33-40 sq. meters each. They have only one such room per floor so the 6 of us had to stay on 2 different floors.

The bathroom is comfortably-sized with both shower and bathtub. The thing that interested the kids most in this room is undoubtably the bidet toilet seat (bottom right hand corner of photo). Squeaks of delight could be heard as they tried the various buttons to wash, air-dry their little bottoms and heat the seat. This was, after all, a novelty to them.

The ginger-flavoured toiletries (姜心比心) from local farms, which my mum likes so much she went shopping for the regular-sized ones in Taipei to bring home.

Breakfast is included but the dining area is small. As such, breakfast time was limited to hourly sessions and we had to choose the timing upon check-in. Since we arrived at the hotel late, we were only left with either the 8-9am or 10-11am session. We took the latter so we could sleep in. The spread was decent with Chinese and Western breakfast items and regularly replenished.

There is also a convenience store next door so it was easy for us to stock up some snacks for the night. However, there is no major shopping centre or shopping areas within stone’s throw. So, traveling is required to do any shopping beyond what is available in the 7/11 convenience store.

Inhouse Boutique Hotel (薆悦精品), Ximending

The thing we like best about Inhouse Boutique Hotel is its location. Located around 5mins walk from Ximending MRT station and along a side alley just off Ximending Pedestrian Area, it makes travelling, dining and shopping easy for us. We could shop late into the night till the shops’ closing time before strolling back for a warm shower and good night sleep.

The hotel is located in the middle of a side alley, so locating it was a problem for us during our first trip.

We took 2 standard rooms for our party of 6. Do note that their standard rooms sleeps 2 pax.

By virtue of its location, the room rates are not cheap. Furthermore, the hotel’s policy is to charge adult rate for children above 7 years old and levy a surcharge of NT$800 for the third person in each room. An extra bed could be put up for the third person but we opted not to since the room is not big to start off with. Since it’s along a side alley, we also did not get a good view of Ximending Pedestrian Area from our room window.

The L’occitane toiletries provided much to the ladies’ liking.

Breakfast is semi-buffet style and included in the room rates. We got to choose between a Western or Chinese main course; a decision of either to have truffle omelette with bacon and fries or seafood porridge.

The buffet spread included cereal, bread, salad and beverages. But they appeared not to be replenishing the buffet items after they’re finished. This was the impression we got when we went downstairs late for breakfast. So do appear for breakfast early if you want a much complete spread.

Given a chance, we’re likely to stay here again all because of its good location.
