Four Footsteps

Our Stay in Escape Khao Yai Hotel

We stayed for one night in Khao Yai. Attracted by the photos of the guest rooms, we chose to stay in Escape Khao Yai Hotel. Room-wise we were not disappointed but during our stay, there was only one dining option. More on that later.

Escape Khao Yai consists of a lobby block with a few separate blocks for hotel rooms. The common areas of the hotel is mostly naturally ventilated and open, giving a sense of connectivity to the environment and nature. This includes the main lobby and corridors. We enjoyed our welcome drink in the lobby while waiting for check-in formalities to be completed. Then we were taken to the block where our room is in a buggy.

We took a deluxe corner king room with extra rollaway bed. It was a good deal at S$167 plus THB 1200/night for an extra bed on Christmas Eve.

There is a small balcony with wooden chairs which guests could sit and enjoy the pool view against surrounding greenery. And in our case, a view of the ongoing Christmas festivities by the pool side.

The bathroom was spacious and clean.

The only downside to our otherwise good stay was the dinner option during our stay. The restaurant was closed for ala carte orders. There was no room service for that evening. The only dinner option in the hotel that night was their Christmas dinner buffet which cost around THB 1600/pax (can’t remember the exact figure). The price was still reasonable. But my travel companions and I do not eat that much so we decided it was not worth paying the amount to have a morsel of roast for dinner. And the hotel is not in the vicinity of other eateries or night market. We would have to hire a cab out to the night market and back. In the end, we bought some light snacks from their Christmas bazaar for our ‘dinner’.

Breakfast is buffet-style at the hotel’s restaurant above the lobby. There are both indoor and outdoor seating available. We chose to brave the cold sitting outdoors to enjoy the view while dining. It was definitely worth it.

They had a good spread of Western, Thai and Chinese breakfast items. It was great drinking tom yam soup early in the morning in the cool weather.

The stay was good as the hotel has a relaxing atmosphere around it. The place was clean and service was prompt. This is a surely a good choice of accommodation in Khao Yai.
